Blast from the Past
Recently, I was privileged to be sent to Manila on a business trip. It was painfully long but adventurous. Well, painful not because I didn’t have a good time, in fact, I had a blast!
I stayed at the center of a progressive metropolis, Eastwood City, a Mediterranean city in itself, oblivious of the hustle and bustle of the busy streets and congestion. Carefully planned and built with the modern conveniences of an urban living in mind. It is a fusion of state-of-the-art residential condominiums, business and commercial, and entertainment infrastructures. There, I was lucky enough to walk with the celebrities and businessmen alike.
A few days after I arrived, I was brought to the Medical City Hospital for a treatment of an infection that I say I got from a 26-hour flight from Montreal. I was grateful however that it was nothing serious. Although this took away my appetite for food and night life for a week and some of my shopping money!
In February, Eastwood city hosted several festivities in the name of love and the Chinese New Year.
Although I am far from having a Chinese blood in me, I took part in the said festivities. Went for a Tarot card reading where I was greeted with “be careful, married men tend to gravitate towards you; and if you do not watch your diet, your health will easily succumb to the effects of too much bad cholesterol and salty foods.” I say, shouldn’t we all?
One night, David Pomeranz had a concert in Eastwood, which I was fortunate to see. Thanks to the slickness of a cousin, we were seated just a few feet away from the stage, close enough you could almost smell his breath and see him sweat as he rendered his Undying Admiration to the screaming crowd.
On my second weekend there, I left the city to go visit my grandparents in the province. Unexpectedly, I was face-to-face with an old flame. We spent a few hours chatting, occasional teasing and sometimes making out (all with the aid of alcohol). We had a chance to talk and tie some loose ends. It was way overdue and much needed.
My last weekend was spent worrying and helping prepare for another cousin’s civil wedding. They were getting married in haste. And this was what worried me the most, not convinced that it was for the best. But in the end, I was in no position to oppose; they were so much in love, and yes, very pregnant. So being the good “ate” that I am; took them shopping for a wedding ring!
The night before I head back to Montreal was spent in a salon where I treated myself and a friend for a complete hair spa and a quick soothing chair massage. It was the shortest night of all; I watched the clock tick and waited as it announced that it was time to go. Back in the freezing grounds of Montréal, to be wrapped in the warm hugs of the man I love.
